One of the biggest names in the contemporary art world, Japanese artist Takashi Murakami's work is immediately recognizable for its popping, vivid colors and anime-esque aesthetic. Takashi Murakami also known as 'the Warhol of Japan' is most famous for his contemporary art movement, Superflat, in which he describes both the characteristics of Japanese artistic tradition and the nature of post-war Japanese culture and society. Often featuring playful imagery like smiling flowers, oversized, blinking eyes, and Technicolor mushrooms, Murakami is truly the heir to Warhol in his ability to appropriate commercial, popular images inspired by anime and manga (Japanese comics) into high-quality pieces of fine art. In the space of half a century Murakami has wrote a whole new chapter on contemporary art.
Murakami has collaborated with famous brands and artists, such as, Louis Vuitton (in 2002), Kanye West and most recently Pharrell Williams.
